Other Notes: Jason’s mom, Carolyn, writes: “Jason is a wonderful young boy. He just turned 9. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome by a local hospital when he was just over 4 years old. When he was about 2.5 years old, I looked at my husband and said, “What happened to Jason? He used to talk more.” That’s when our journey began. He is very smart, but socially awkward. He adores trains, particularly steam locomotives, airplanes, both civilian and military, and has started to become quite an authority on Transformers. He also loves to read, go to the beach, ride his bike, and play Legos with his 6 year old brother. He wants to learn how to make a friend and often expresses that he thinks nobody likes him.

Jason has always struggled in school. The teachers didn’t understand him and weren’t willing to give him a chance. Since Kindergarten, he has been bounced in and out of several schools, attending over 5 different elementary schools, including private school at the district’s expense. At the end of last school year, Second grade, we knew he was ready to leave private school and enter a public elementary school again. But it was a rocky transition. We were informed at the end of the year that the district was very hesitant to have him return to the same public setting. We were devastated. All summer, we prepared for the worst and hoped for the best. Prior to third grade, over the summer, we aggressively treated Jason’s yeast problem. We purposely had waited for summer break, in case we saw major regression from the die off of that yeast. We did see die off, and then we saw improvements!! His aggression was almost gone, and he was remembering to use his words. He was all around more flexible. Just before third grade was to start, we had an IEP meeting. We fought the district, armed with a very good advocate, to let Jason have one more chance. They were very hesitant, but agreed. I am happy to report that his teacher actually used the words, “Model Student” at our parent teacher conference this October. I nearly fell off my chair!!

Jason has been gf, cf, sf [gluten-free, casein-free, soy-free] for almost 2 years. He also has done neuro-feedback and occupational therapy. We recently started RDI and a Therapeutic Listening Program. He is such a trooper. He takes his vitamin pills better than anyone in the family and *hardly* ever complains about it. He is doing so well, and we are seeing gains in so many areas. We would like to re-run a Comprehensive Stool Analysis test from Great Plains Labs to compare to his last test results that were done over a year ago.
